UT Outpost - SNAP Benefits

SNAP Benefits Overview

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) helps people buy the food they need for good health.

SNAP food benefits are put on a Lone Star Card and can be used just like a credit card at any store that accepts SNAP. People also can buy garden seeds with SNAP benefits. Learn more about buying food online with SNAP.

SNAP can't be used to:

  • Buy tobacco
  • Buy alcoholic drinks
  • Buy things you can't eat or drink
  • Pay for food bills

Eligibility

Most SNAP eligibility rules such as income and resource limits apply to all households, but there are some special rules for students attending an institution of higher education described here.
