Student Conduct Board

The Student Conduct Board is a group comprised of students appointed by the President to serve on Student Conduct Panels. When serving as a panelist, the Student Conduct Board member(s) provide an independent, peer viewpoint on potential misconduct violations.

Role and Structure

Please review the Student Conduct Processes page for information about the student conduct process overall.

Members serve on Student Conduct Panels, offering an independent, peer perspective on potential misconduct violations, as outlined in Chapter 11 of the Institutional Rules. A Student Conduct Panel includes one Hearing Officer, a faculty or staff member appointed by the President, and two Student Conduct Board members. Together, the panel will facilitate the hearing, gather information and evidence regarding the alleged misconduct, and determine whether an Institutional Rule was violated.

Members are trained and provided with resources regarding UT Austin's conduct processes, the purpose and function of the board, membership requirements, hearing processes and practices, and professional standards and expectations. They must also identify and hold availability throughout the semester to serve on panels.

As needed, members can assist with other projects related to the board, such as recruitment and selection efforts.

Membership Requirements

All board members must meet the following requirements for selection and continuation as a board member:

  • Remain in good academic and behavioral standing with the university.
  • Maintain enrollment at UT Austin, specifically a minimum of 9 credit hours for undergraduate students and 6 credit hours for graduate students.
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Cannot hold an executive officer position in any legislative organization.

Each membership is a one-year term. Members who fulfill the following expectations during their tenure and wish to return may be considered for reappointment for the following academic year:

  • Attend all training sessions and other required meetings.
  • Maintain regular availability to serve on hearing panels.
  • Uphold confidentiality standards by abiding by FERPA requirements.
