First-Gen Experience
First-Gen Experience provides dedicated support to first-year, first-generation college students as they transition into life at the Forty Acres. First-year students are matched with a Peer Success Coach who can relate to their experiences and provide guidance throughout their journey. Through a multi-tiered support network, we ensure that first-gen students have the tools needed to thrive academically, personally, and professionally.
Program Elements
- Connection with first-gen Peer Success Coaches through individualized meetings and regular communication throughout the academic year
- Series of workshops that focus on academic confidence, skill building, professional development and wellbeing
- Monthly events to celebrate the first-gen community
- Access to First-Gen Experience Mentee Canvas course to share campus and program announcements




What does it mean to be first-gen?
First-generation (or first-gen, for short) college students are students whose parents or guardians have not had the opportunity to complete a bachelor's degree in the United States. Many students whose parents have degrees from outside of the U.S. also identify as first-gen.
