What is Coach UT?

Coach UT is a leadership development program managed by the University of Texas at Austin's Office of the Dean of Students. Student participants are matched with one of our contracted coaches and complete 5 coaching sessions throughout the semester. Our coaches support both undergraduate and graduate students in achieving their set goals and developing a strong leader identity. Common themes that come up during sessions include effective conflict management skills, building leadership confidence, and navigating imposter syndrome.

Students complete the Emotional Quotient Inventory and a reflection assignment prior to their first session. Coaches are given access to their student clients' assessment reports and written reflections. These documents provide valuable information as to where each student is starting their coaching journey and the potential direction for coaching sessions.

How does this program benefit students?

Our staff provide Coach UT participants with a transformational leadership development experience. We collect pre- and post-program data, measuring growth across a nine-point leader identity scale. Since its inception in 2019, student participants continue to express growth across all 9 leader identity scales and describe a series of positive impacts.

One student participant stated, "This experience has helped me develop who I am as a person and to be suited to lead. When I started this journey, I was lost as to who I was and the leader I could become. My coach helped me develop and realize the places that needed improvements, and with that, my confidence, time management skills, and boldness have come a long way. This experience has put me in the right path to becoming a better person and leader to others."

What are the required qualifications to be a coach through Coach UT?
