Purpose: To strengthen and empower women engineering students by: * educating women about difficulties facing female engineers, * creating a sense of identity and community, * providing resources for women engineers, and * enhancing leadership and professional skills
Membership: Student pursuing a course of study leading to a degree in engineering or a science related to engineering is eligible for the grade of student members.
Functions: Industry Speakers, Panel Discussions, SWE Mentor Advising Program, High School Encounter with Engineering, Spring Awards Banquet, Engineers Day at the Mall, plant tours, intramural sports, service projects, and social activities. ECJ 1.228

Categories of UT Austin Registered Student Organizations
Each year, registered student organizations self-identify according to the following twelve categories:
- Educational/Departmental Organizations promote development in a particular academic area.
- Honorary Organizations recognize high-level academic achievement, and generally require a demonstrated interest in a particular career or academic discipline.
- International/Cultural Organizations foster cultural diversity and offer support to their members and the campus community.
- Legislative Student Organizations Graduate Student Assembly, Senate of College Councils and Student Government.
- Political Organizations support political parties, political issues and/or candidates who are seeking political office.
- Professional Organizations provide a preview of students' anticipated professional careers. Group activities may include speakers, field trips and volunteer or field work.
- Recreational Organizations promote sports-oriented programs and/or recreational activities.
- Religious Organizations serve as support for students of a particular religious persuasion or denomination.
- Service Organizations provide volunteers for on-campus and off-campus projects. Membership requirements generally include a commitment to work for and/or an interest in a particular cause.
- Social Organizations foster social networks among members.
- Special Interest Organizations focus on a specific issue or topic.
- Student Governance Organizations address student needs and express student views.
