Get Involved in Texas Higher Education Policy!

There are multiple leadership opportunities for you to get involved and influence policy development regarding higher education beyond our Forty Acres. Applications for the UT System Student Regent and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) Non-Voting Student Representatives are currently available for UT students.

Applications for both the UT System Student Regent and THECB positions are due 12 noon CT, Friday, November 17, 2023.

Interested applicants are encouraged to attend an information session being held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023, from 6 – 6:30 p.m. CT via Zoom (https://utexas.zoom.us/j/96938270069, Meeting ID: 969 3827 0069)

There are three opportunities and application processes:

  

UT System Student Regent

This position requires a one-year commitment from June 1, 2024, to May 31, 2025. For initial consideration, UT applicants must:

  • be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student.
  • have an established grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) or better. Students enrolled in their first semester who have not established a GPA are not eligible.
  • be in "good standing" as certified by the Registrar's Office.
  • if graduating, provide proof of acceptance and enrollment into a graduate program at UT with their submitted application.
  • commit to fulfill all minimum time commitments during the term of service.
  • maintain a statewide perspective on higher education (as opposed to only representation a single college or university).
  • remain enrolled at UT throughout the appointment and maintain a GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale), if selected.

If appointed, the student representative must continue to meet the following criteria for the length of their term:

  • Maintain a GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale;
  • Maintain enrollment at UT throughout their appointed term; and
  • Maintain a state-wide perspective on higher education (as opposed to representing any single college or university).

Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) Non-Voting Student Representative

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) Non-Voting Student Representative position requires a one-year commitment from June 1, 2024, to May 31, 2025. For initial consideration, UT applicants must:

  • be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student.
  • be in good academic standing.
  • have an established grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) or better. Students enrolled in their first semester who have not established a GPA are not eligible.
  • if graduating, provide proof of acceptance and enrollment into a graduate program at UT with their submitted application.
  • commit to fulfill all minimum time commitments during the term of service.

If appointed, the student representative must continue to meet the following criteria for the length of their term:

  • Maintain a GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale;
  • Maintain enrollment at UT throughout their appointed term; and
  • Maintain a state-wide perspective on higher education (as opposed to representing any single college or university).

THECB Non-Voting Student Representative on Advisory Committees

The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) Non-Voting Student Representative on Advisory Committees position requires a two-year commitment from June 1, 2024, to May 31, 2026, to serve on one of four different THECB Advisor Committees. Applicants may apply for multiple committees but will only be considered for one. For initial consideration, UT applicants must:

  • be enrolled as an undergraduate (freshmen, sophomore, junior) or graduate student.
  • be in good academic standing.
  • have an established grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) or better. Students enrolled in their first semester who have not established a GPA are not eligible.
  • commit to fulfill all minimum time commitments during the term of service.

If appointed, the student representative must continue to meet the following criteria for the length of their term:

  • Maintain a GPA of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale;
  • Maintain enrollment at UT throughout their appointed term; and
  • Maintain a state-wide perspective on higher education (as opposed to representing any single college or university).
