Summer Internship Program
The Summer Internship Program provides undergraduate students at The University of Texas at Austin to get real-world professional experience while being supported by competitive compensation and housing assistance. For this summer, we anticipate positions will be a combination of in-person and virtual responsibilities. There will be an in-person workshop once a week that is mandatory for interns; the time and date of this workshop will be released early spring. Summer 2024 internship dates are May 20 - July 26, 2024.
All applications for Summer 2024 are now closed.
Student-Driven Internships
The Summer Internship Program offers students a unique opportunity to build career experience while working in departments and offices across campus. Most internships are requested by staff; however, we also offer a limited number of internships for students to approach full-time staff or faculty and create their own student-driven opportunities. Student-driven interns will participate in the same weekly workshops as students in established internship positions as well as receive the same compensation. The only difference is that students must propose their own projects instead of applying to an already established position.
Competitive Compensation
Interns are hired to work 19 hours a week for 10 weeks during the summer. Positions pay $15/hour and depending on need can qualify for housing assistance. Additional documentation is required for housing assistance, you must have been selected to participate in the internship program to qualify.
Professional Development
Through 10-week project-based internships and weekly professional development workshops, students build transferable skills for their future. Workshops are based on the National Association of Colleges and Employers’ career readiness competencies. Students learn competencies through experiential activities, and are given a real-time opportunity to apply what they learn in the course during their internship that week. There is also a final poster presentation for the summer that allows students to practice their presentation skills with peers and staff.
