Addressing Difficult & Sensitive Matters

When addressing difficult or sensitive matters involving students, staff members have several campus resources available to them for support and consultation. For example, consultation with the University's Counseling and Mental Health Center (CMHC) (Hotline: 471-2255) may be appropriate when a student is struggling with a personal issue. For further information on dealing with students who may be experiencing stress or mental health crises, please refer to CMHC's Guide for Faculty and Staff, which also suggests appropriate ways to assist and respond to students in these situations.

You may also contact Student Judicial Services (471-2841) when concerned about student behavior and/or possible violations of institutional rules or policies.

However, the University of Texas Police Department (UTPD) should be contacted immediately regarding any situation in which you believe that a student may be in danger or may pose a danger to others.
