Become a UT Peace Ambassador and Travel to China!
2015 Legends of China: The Silk Road to the Future

Students at Great Wall of China The Division of Student Affairs proudly presents a cultural and educational exchange program, offered through the Office of the Dean of Students, which provides students, faculty and staff from The University of Texas at Austin the opportunity to travel to China to experience and gain a better understanding of international cultures, economies and educational systems. With the goal of exposing participants to diverse cultures to improve awareness and appreciation of the vibrancy and diversity of these increasingly important players in the global economy, the Silk Road to the Future offers a variety of real-world opportunities for personal growth and educational enrichment outside the classroom.

Trips are open to all UT Austin students, faculty and staff, as well as family members (if accompanied by an individual affiliated with the university).  There is more than one itinerary/package option available and detailed descriptions of each program, along with registration deadlines and application information are available below.

Globalization in Education

The 2015 program, Silk Road to the Future, is in partnership with the Beijing Educational Committee and the Legends of China Foundation. Participating students, faculty and staff are offered opportunities for profound academic dialogue, increased cultural awareness and interaction with peers, while touring historical sites and visiting Beijing's finest universities.

Since 2001, the University of California and other elite universities have sent over 3,500 students, faculty and staff to China as Ambassadors of Peace. *The Office of the Dean of Students invites all interested students, faculty and staff to participate in the 2015 program as Peace Ambassadors.

*Please note: These trips are not for academic credit.

This year's Silk Banner Creation Theme is Martial Arts and World Peace, which includes activities tailored towards martial arts and the highlight of the exciting 2015 The Silk Road to the Future program: The experience of a lifetime to practice martial arts on the Great Wall of China! Martial Arts to Chinese culture, transcends a defense method, it has been a healthy living and peaceful spirit inside the 5000 years old Chinese civilization. Martial Arts benefits all walks of life and is enjoyable for people of all ages.  Participants will learn skills and technique from Martial Arts masters. Although no experience is necessary, there will be alternative tours at the historical sites for participants who do not wish to participate in Martial Arts activities.
