Legislative Student Organizations
The Office of the Dean of Students and the two largest student governing bodies have maintained a close working relationship for many years. Three members of our staff assist and advise Student Government and the Senate of College Councils in their day-to-day operations.
Student Government
All UT students are members of Student Government. SG's mission is to represent the interests of students and increase student decision-making power; to improve campus life through the creation and continuation of viable and effective student services; to preserve and protect the traditions and legends of UT; and to support students and student organizations in their academic and community endeavors. Comprised of an executive, legislative and judicial branch, as well as numerous committees and agencies, there are opportunities for students to become involved through elected, appointed and volunteer positions.

Senate of College Councils
Every school and college at UT has a student council, which works to improve student life in its college. The college councils provide programming which affects the academic environment, student-faculty interaction, and the university community. The Senate of College Councils is the coordinating body that brings together those 18 college councils to represent UT students in academic affairs and other issues of importance to the University.
