Starting a New Group
There are many benefits to being a registered student organization at The University of Texas at Austin. Student organizations have the ability to use on-campus facilities, banking services, raise funds, sponsor speakers and public performances, and distribute literature.
Registered student organizations also have access to the staff at Student Activities and Leadership Development for help with program planning, risk management, conflict resolution, raising funds, or other issues related to a student organization.
A group of three or more currently enrolled students may form a registered student organization by picking up the application paperwork from the Student Organization Center (SOC) located on the 4th floor of the SSB.
You will need to read and complete these three forms: the Application for Registration-New Organization Form, the New Group Authorized Representative Form (PDF), and the Legal Responsibilities Form (PDF). Return the completed forms to the SOC. There is a $10 registration fee that must be paid when the forms are turned in.
In addition, it is a requirement to attend a New Organization Orientation Session. You must sign up for a session at the SOC when you submit your new organization paperwork.
