Leadership and Ethics Institute (LEI) Programs and Initiatives
Executive Board
Motivated, qualified individuals who make it a priority to develop and continuously enhance their leadership skills are well suited for Executive Board positions. An Executive Board member should demonstrate leadership abilities and a desire to leave their mark on The University of Texas at Austin. Executive Board members are comprised of individuals who have had some prior experience with LEI.

Commitment Expectations
- Actively participate in LEI training and development programs;
- Prepare, attend and contribute to weekly board meetings on Thursdays evenings from 5-6:30 p.m.;
- Attend meetings with professional staff to discuss personal and LEI Executive Committee achievements, and personal growth areas;
- Maintain at least two office hours each week which will be utilized for projects related to LEI responsibilities;
- Have completed or currently registered for EDP369K: Student Organizational Leadership on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30-2 p.m.;
- Attend meetings as deemed necessary by LEI professional staff, LEI Executive Board, or LEI Executive Committee;
- Attend all LEI retreats; and
- Maintain some availability over the summer break to communicate with LEI professional staff and peers either in person, by telephone, or e-mail.
Additionally, LEI members must maintain a 2.3 GPA and cannot, at any time, have ac active disciplinary sanction.
Personal Development and Learning Outcomes
LEI Executive Committee membership provides many opportunities to achieve the following personal development and learning outcomes:
- Build healthy relationships and maintain networks with peer student leaders and administrators across campus;
- Develop and apply analytical thinking and problem solving skills;
- Explore and enhance interpersonal, written, oral and cross-cultural communication skills;
- Practice and strengthen public speaking and presentation skills;
- Execute large-scale programming initiatives;
- Understand and be able to work collaboratively with groups and teams;
- Create clear, cooperative and challenging goals for self and groups;
- Embrace, understand and practice ethical leadership; and
- Understand the need to take an active role in social change and identify effective paths to do so.
Application Process
Applications for 2010-2011 Executive Board members will be available on February 15, 2010. Please submit your completed application at the Student Organization Center (SOC), which is located on the fourth floor of the Student Services Building (SSB). Applications are due no later than 5 p.m. on March 1, 2010. Interviews for Executive Board applicants will be held on March 9-11, 2010.
