Amnesty InternationalAmnesty International is the world's largest human rights organization. Here at UT, we are student activists who work to promote awareness about human rights abuses at home and around the globe. We focus both on social, economic, and cultural rights as well as political rights.In our meetings, we write letters on behalf of Prisoners of conscience (prisoners held solely on their beliefs) to government embassies, officials, or the prisoners the prisoners themselves. We also host events on campus to raise awareness and fundraise for specific issues. In the past, our events have introduced activists to such topics as Maternal Mortality in the U.S., prisoners at Guantanamo Bay, and the war in the Congo.
Art of LivingThe purpose of the Art of Living is to bring the benefits of the Art of Living workshops to UT students and faculty. The club aims to offer workshops in yoga, meditation, and special breathing techniques to relieve stress, improve quality of life, and foster a stress-free, violence-free campus.Art of Living at UT organizes Art of Living youth and adult courses that teach various techniques to relieve stress and practical tools to deal with situations in life. Camp Kesem - TexasCamp Kesem is a college student run summer camp for kids with a parent who has or has had cancer. Our one week sleep over camps are a chance for kids 6-16 to have a fun-filled week and just be kids.Hold fundraisers to put the camp on for no cost to the children's families. Chess ClubChess Club is organized to promote the game of chess in the UT community.Chess club promotes interest in and the ideals of chess. We meet weekly to play and develop strategies and encourage members to participate in city-wide/local tournaments.
China CareEvery year tens of thousands of children are thrust into overcrowded, under funded orphanages and abandoned because parent's can't afford to care for them. And for children born with disabilities, the outlook is far grimmer. Our mission is to give Chinese orphans the opportunity for a life of love & American families the means to provide it. And, in the process positively affect the lives of those who help as well as those who are helped.Our function will be to sponser children for necessary surgeries and future adoption. We also organize a bi-monthly playgroup in the Austin area for families with children from China. 451
Coastal Bend Longhorn Students INACTIVEOur purpose is to provide students of the Coastal Bend Region an opportunity to come together to take on challenges, such as community service, set before them. Through this, we will positively represent not only the University of Texas at Austin, but also our home region, the Coastal Bend. Collegium MusicumThe Collegium Musicum is an independent, extracurricular chorus at the University of Texas at Austin. We offer the University's student choral singers a year-round opportunity to sing the great choral music of the Western tradition, placing special emphasis on music of the Renaissance and Middle Ages, and on works of unusual musical or historical significance.Rehearsal two nights each week (Thurs/Sun. 7:00-9:30 PM); 1-2 concerts per semester; 1 overnight retreat per semester.
ColorCancerWe fundraise by selling shirts in the colors corresponding to the cancer that individuals have been affected by. The money raised through the sale of these shirts goes toward small groups who have taken action towards various cancer causes and hope to affect change in a large way. Our motto is "Every cancer has a color. Every color has a story." We are passionate about his cause because these aren't just colors. These colors represent families who have lost loved one's, they represent individuals who are currently in and out of hospital rooms searching for the next cure, and they represent those who have battled cancer and won. No one has the same story I do, no one has the same story you do, but with ColorCancer we know that while we are unique, we are not alone.Spread awareness, offer hope and encouragement, and raise funds to support cancer related causes. Partner with cancer related organizations, volunteer in the community, and practice health promotion. In addition, the CMAA officers will educate the members in ways to successful in their job searches in the construction industry. Finally, CMAA goes on a field trip to a construction sit at least once a semester, giving students hands-on experience in the construction world.

Our members run multiple technical projects at any given time, like our recycling program or the installation of a 230 watt solar panel for a high school. Graveyard Play will be performed between April 26- May 5 2013.The Graveyard Play ensemble will workshop and develop a site specific piece, generate original text, seek academic advisement from their professors, undergo a rehearsal process and perform six shows for the public.
Guild of Student CarillonneursThe Guild seeks to: maintain a regular ringing schedule of the Kniker Carillon during the academic year; to further the musical education of its members through performance and instruction; to perform at official functions of the university; and to encourage general interest in the Carillon at the University of Texas.The Guild performs mini-concerts weekly on the Kniker Carillon as well as giving a larger concert at least once a semester. The Guild would also like to see the Carillon become more integral to official functions at the university as well as daily life.

Longhorn Wellness ClubTo expose students to the realm of complementary and alternative medicine by exploring the various natural methods of relieving stress and improving one's overall health. The Wellness Club encapsulates the main domains which include biologically based remedies, body based therapies, energy based healing, whole systems based treatment, and mind/body medicine. We seek to help students enhance their physical and mental states in an environment cohesive to relation and self-directed approaches to the enrichment of their own well being.The Wellness Club will focus mainly on providing UT students with a place to relieve their stress and learn about how to improve their wellness and health. There will be monthly meetings which will focus on nutrition, exercise, meditation, and yoga. Student officers will conduct sessions where students will be lead in all sorts of mind and body exercises. The purpose of the club is to provide a hands-on, non-committal place where students can practice and learn about different forms of meditation, yoga, nutrition, and overall wellness. The meetings will also include guest speakers from the traditional and alternative medicine fields. SynapseOur goal is provide an informal space for students to cultivate, explore, and refine their interests in the broad field of neuroscience. We try to foster a positive, relaxed environment where students can hone their critical thinking and public speaking skills. Fundamentally, we seek to provide a sense of community by serving as a home on campus for undergraduates curious and/or passionate about neuroscience.During our regular meetings, we host peer-led discussions and informal talks by campus researchers. We also host the Undergraduate Neuroscience Journal Club, where we (learn to) read, present, and discuss scientific papers. On the side, we help fellow students get into research labs. Some of the other things we have done in the recent past include: book club, lab tours, faculty meet-and-greet, movie nights, flavor-tripping, and outreach/service. The Diogenes ClubThe Diogenes Club is an inclusive organization at the University of Texas at Austin that was created to bring together Sherlock Holmes fans of all shapes and sizes. We welcome not only hardcore fans but also anyone who has enjoyed Holmesian stories, TV shows, or movies! All you need is an interest in the world's greatest (and only) consulting detective. We've borrowed our name from a club in the Conan Doyle canon which was frequented by Sherlock's older, cleverer brother Mycroft and at which members were forbidden to speak.Unlike Mycroft's hangout, which contains the "most unsociable and unclubable men in town," we plan to hold book discussions, film screenings, and occasional get-togethers. UT is a great campus to be a Sherlock Holmes fan — we might invite professors to speak at meetings or visit the Harry Ransom Center to see Conan Doyle's original manuscripts, library of crime, and other miscellanea. Finally, we will, of course, also be solving any mysteries brought to our attention. Magnifying glasses and deerstalker caps are, of course, optional.

The Masterpiece Society INACTIVEOur goal is to create an environment for students to meet and talk about classic and/or acclaimed novels in a laid back atmosphere. We're also a film club, so we watch movies and mini-series based on the novels we read. There's always something going on in Austin, somewhere so every once in a while we venture out together for a field trip. Meetings are once a week, but the readings are never too long.Simply put, we are a book and film club. We don't read junk novels but we don't limit our readings to the Barnes & Noble classics list either. The Phoenix INACTIVEThe Phoenix seeks to provide the University of Texas at Austin community with diverse modes of theare while embracing the highest quality of artistic merit.We will create a diverse artistic community that will produce new works, reworking of classical theatre, and works of contemporary playwrights from around the world.
The Undergraduate Collective of Black Scholars INACTIVETo organize and assemble connections and relationships between race, gender, sexuality, and class in order to achieve intellectual enrichment and empowerment for and within the Black community. This collective will discuss, analyze, and critique such issues as African American Rhetoric, intersectionality, structural and social institutions, socialization, normalization, slavery economics, etc. Scholars will disseminate forms of systematic hierarchy and oppression while acquiring the skills and knowledge to effectively articulate profound discoveries through research.Major activities include community & coalition building, research, education, and providing a safe environment.
TWLOHA TEXAS UChapterTo Write Love On Her Arms is a non-profit movement dedicated to presenting hope and finding help for people struggling with depression, addiction, self injury, and suicide. TWLOHA exists to encourage, inspire and also to invest directly into treatment and recovery. UChapters is a network of student organizations that exists to embody the mission and vision of TWLOHA.Through organized meetings and events, TWLOHA Texas serves as a voice of hope, inspiration, and support for students and their surrounding communities. Events include:Suicide Prevention Week, AFSP Out of the Darkness Walk, a TWLOHA Benefit, and much more.
U T Student Organization Safety Board INACTIVEThe board is a liaison between registered student organizations and the Office of the Dean of Students for risk management and student safety issues. The board is a resource for members, and authorized representatives in student organizations in identifying and minimizing the level of risk and ensure student safety during co-curricular activities.a) Provide recommendations/feedback on DOS policies and procedures related to risk management. b) Promote a campus wide student organization decision making approach based on careful consideration of student safety and risk issues. c) Share student perspective on student organization safety and risk issues with DOS staff. d) Assist in development/implementation of student organization risk management programs.
UNICEF-Student ChapterUNICEF-Student Chapter will educate the campus and community about UNICEF's child survival work, advocate awareness of child survival issues, and raise funds for children around the world.In order to raise money, we will participate in such activities as UNICEF's World Water Week and Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF.
University Leadership InitiativeTo promote and acquire support for the Dream Act - a proposed law which would benefit undocumented students to obtain legal status and therefore practice their professions.To participate in conferences and social events to disseminate knowledge about the Dream Act. The organization will have fundraisers throughout the semester.
University Meteorology ClubTo study, observe, and discuss current and upcoming weather events. Look at weather-related events locally as well as nationally and discuss any important. Also, participate in activities around campus that allow the student population to be informed of the impact of meteorology. Conduct trips to weather stations in the area at times throughout the semester.
University Screenwriters Guild INACTIVETo foster a community of screenwriters at the University of Texas.Screenwriting technique discussions, awareness of local and national screenwriting competitions, peer-to-peer advice and critique, software demonstrations, and more.
University Theatre GuildUTG serves as an outlet for theatre for those who love theatre and did it in high school but don't necessarily want to major in it, theatre majors who want to perform but aren't cast in the department and those who want to try theatre for the first time. UTG is not connected to the theatre department and is completely self-funded.We put on two plays a semester. Our membership votes on plays and directors for the following semester. We do everything ourselves-act, direct, tech, publicize, and sometimes even write.
University VegetariansTo provide a social outlet for the vegetarians and vegans of the University and to encourage all students through outreach, literature, and events to adopt a vegetarian/vegan diet.Tabling, protests, movie screenings, discussions, rallies, social dinners, volunteer services, and helping the University to become vegan. UT Objectivism SocietyTo study and discuss Ayn Rand's philosophy of Objectivism.We function as a source of information on Objectivism and philosophy in general, on its application to daily life, and on Ayn Rand herself. We work with Ayn Rand Institute in planning our meeting and speaker presentations, and are the only campus organization to do so. Each meeting features a videotaped or audiotaped presentation on Objectivism and/or its application to a specific topic, followed by discussion. The Society also sponsors frequent public lectures by distinguished Objectivism-oriented speakers. Events are posted to U.T. online calendars and publicized on the Objectivism Society e-mailing list.
Valley Longhorn StudentsValley Longhorn Students official purpose will be to provide academic and social support for students from, students with ties to, and students with interest in the Rio Grande Valley and its people.As a Valley Longhorn Students member you will engage in various volunteer and community service projects in Austin and the Rio Grande Valley community, and hopefully will find a comfort in the organization; a home away from home.
Voices for Reproductive JusticeIn support of the reproductive justice movement, Voices for Reproductive Justice (VRJ) educates and advocates for the human right to make personal reproductive decisions. Lectures, screenings, get out the vote (GOTV) efforts, providing reproductive health information, and community outreach.
White Rose SocietyThe White Rose Society is a holocaust remembrance and genocide awareness group. We are actively fighting to end the current genocide in Darfur. We are UT's official STAND (students taking action now Darfur) group. Join now to take a stand and promote awareness and action over apathy towards genocide.Challah for Hunger-We bake and sell sweet bread for humanitarian aid for refugees from the conflict! Darfur 101-Learn and give presentations about Darfur. White Roses-We pass out 10,000 roses in memory of holocaust victims. Symposium-Hear speakers and participate in dialogues about human rights and genocide.

Youth CourtOur official purpose is to provide a support network for at-risk youth in Austin especially concerning issues of education, discipine, domestic violence, and other legal issues affecting Austin's youth.The organization's two main activities will be starting a Youth Court at Webb Middle School and providing tutoring and mentroring programs with local organizations through United Way.
