Texas PearlsTo serve as a fun, social organization that gears towards domestic life skills such as cooking, etiquette (eg. how to properly set up the dining table), and other necessary skills that will help a person become more savvy in everyday life.It will be very social and educational. Every meeting will involve a social aspect. There will be "families" within the organization, and activities that the families can do together outside of the organization as well. There will be a formal dance every semester. Lessons/activities include learning about different kinds of wine/champagne/etc. (how else will you learn how to choose the right type of bottle for your needs in the future?), learning about some different cultures to be more savvy internationally, learning about different spices and cooking ingredients, etc.

Texas Secular HumanistsAs UT Austin's first non-prophet non-profit, Texas Secular Humanists promotes the values of secular humanism on campus and in the Austin community. Though we have weekly social events, we are first and foremost a service organization; we volunteer regularly at local shelters, raise money for humane causes, and host talks on important human issues (e.g., human rights, gender equality, secular ethics).As secularists, we serve UT's non-religious students; as humanists, we serve the entire community. Texas Secular Humanists meets Tuesdays at 7:00 PM in Parlin 204. Meetings usually begin with a "Humanist of the Week" presentation, given by a member who has volunteered earlier in the semester. After small-group discussions, we then spend some time planning service projects and social events. Once that's over -- usually around 8:00 PM -- we head to Fuzzy's Tacos for dinner and refreshments.
