Purpose: This assembly of economics graduate students in a body devoted to one goal: Improving the lives of the economic graduate students. This goal will be accomplished through three areas as described below in the Functions Section.

Functions: Our activities encompass three general areas; 1) Social. EGAD will support social interaction among graduate students and between graduate students and faculty. 2) Educational. EGAD will support seminars that address students decisions on shaping experiences within the department. 3) Political. EGAD will work to improve graduate students' standing int eh department and in the field of economics as a whole.

Each year, registered student organizations self-identify according to the following twelve categories:
- Educational/Departmental Organizations promote development in a particular academic area.
- Honorary Organizations recognize high-level academic achievement, and generally require a demonstrated interest in a particular career or academic discipline.
- International/Cultural Organizations foster cultural diversity and offer support to their members and the campus community.
- Legislative Student Organizations Graduate Student Assembly, Senate of College Councils and Student Government.
- Political Organizations support political parties, political issues and/or candidates who are seeking political office.
- Professional Organizations provide a preview of students' anticipated professional careers. Group activities may include speakers, field trips and volunteer or field work.
- Recreational Organizations promote sports-oriented programs and/or recreational activities.
- Religious Organizations serve as support for students of a particular religious persuasion or denomination.
- Service Organizations provide volunteers for on-campus and off-campus projects. Membership requirements generally include a commitment to work for and/or an interest in a particular cause.
- Social Organizations foster social networks among members.
- Special Interest Organizations focus on a specific issue or topic.
- Student Governance Organizations address student needs and express student views.
