Program Safety Education Services
Safety Education is a Shared Responsibility
At UT Austin, Program Safety Education Services (PSES) uses a "Facilitator Model" that balances the rights and responsibilities of both students and the University. This model seeks to create shared responsibility for student safety. Neither the University nor students should have sole responsibility for student safety and risk management. As facilitators, our job is to define appropriate boundaries (university policy, the law, etc.) and give students the ability to make choices. In this model, the following must occur:
- Students and student leaders must acknowledge their critical role in ensuring their own safety and the safety of fellow students; and
- The University must also share responsibility by providing students and registered student organizations with resources and tools they can use to plan safe events and activities.
