University of Texas Student Organization Safety Board (UT SOSB)

The University of Texas Student Organization Safety Board (UT SOSB) is the official liaison between registered student organizations and the Office of the Dean of Students for risk management and student safety issues. The board provides a hands-on learning environment for student leaders who want to enhance their event planning and risk management skills and share this knowledge with others. The board serves as a resource to UT students and campus organizations by providing information and events that help foster a culture of safety during co-curricular activities.

UT SOSB Goals:

• Provide recommendations/feedback on DOS policies and procedures related to risk management.
• Promote a campus-wide student organization decision-making approach based on careful consideration of student safety and risk issues.
• Share student perspective on student organization safety and risk issues with DOS staff.
• Assist in development/implementation of student organization risk management education programs and materials.

UT SOSB Membership:

The UT SOSB is comprised of a diverse group of student leaders who have an interest in risk management and want to make a difference on campus. There are two types of board members - delegate and at-large. The board is led by two co-chairs and an administrative director (elected each April) and is advised by staff in the Office of the Dean of Students.

Delegate members are nominated by the presidents of major sponsored student organizations on campus. At-large board members are selected through an open application process each spring. To be eligible for either type of board membership, you must be a current member or officer of a registered student organization at the University of Texas at Austin.
