Welcome Longhorn Family Members!

The New Student Services area of the Office of the Dean of Students has planned a day-long program for family members who have new freshman students attending UT Austin.

Family Orientation is offered on the first day of each freshman orientation session and registration is required. The Family Orientation fee is $25 per person and includes a barbecue meal. Meal options are:

The barbecue plate includes mesquite-smoked beef brisket and/or hand-basted turkey served with potato salad, cole slaw, pinto ranch beans, barbecue sauce, jalapeños, dill pickles, onions, wheat and/or white bread, water and ice tea.   

The vegetarian plate includes smoked vegetable kabobs, baked potato casserole, fresh fruit, jalapeño cornbread casserole, jalapeños, dill pickles, onions, wheat and/or white bread, water and ice tea.

The Family Orientation fee is applicable to guests (17 years-and-older). Individual barbecue ticket meals for children (16 years-and-younger) can be purchased for $8 per plate. Orientees have prepaid for this meal as part of their orientation fee.

All pre-paid registration packet(s) and additional barbecue wristband(s) will be available for pick up at the Family Orientation Check-in from 8-10 a.m., at the Student Activity Center (SAC) 2.410.

Cancellations or changes to your reservation can be requested by contacting New Student Services at 512-471-3304. Please retain your e-mail confirmation for your records. Cancellations or refunds will not be processed after the registration system closes. The registration system closes five days prior to the start of each orientation session.

Method of payment are credit card, check or money order. If paying by check or money order, please make payable to UT Austin and include session date and student's UT EID on the memo line.
