Fall Orientation Freshmen FAQs

When is Fall Orientation?
Fall Orientation is scheduled for Wednesday, August 22, through Friday, August 24, 2012.

Is Orientation mandatory for freshman?
Yes. Fall freshman admits are required to attend an orientation.

When can I register for Fall Orientation?
Registration is open from July 9 through August 19, 2012.

How can I access a schedule of events for Fall Orientation?
For program information, you may download a pdf version of the 2012 Fall Freshman Program Schedule and or the New Student Guide Fall 2012.

Is there an additional fee to attend Fall Orientation?
No additional fee is required to attend, but you will need to register if you plan to attend Fall Orientation.

When may I register for classes?
Registration for the fall semester for new and readmitted students who have not yet registered may register on August 24. To complete registration, undergraduate students must pay tuition by 5 p.m. on August 28. Students may view the Fall 2012 Course Schedule online at registrar.utexas.edu.

When do fall classes begin?
Classes begin on Wednesday, August 29, 2012.

Are housing accommodations and meals provided by Orientation?
No. University Residence Halls open for the fall semester on Friday, August 24, at 9 a.m. Early check-in begins on Tuesday, August 21, at 4 p.m.

Students who check in early will be charged $50 per night. If you need to check in early, you MUST schedule a check-in time online to ensure your room will be ready.

Is parking provided during Fall Orientation?
No. Parking is available at an hourly rate per entry at the UT Austin garages. Specific information regarding UT Parking Garages and hourly rates can be found at www.utexas.edu/parking.

Will I be able to take placement tests?

 Placement and credit by examination are offered during Fall Orientation. If you need to sign up for placement tests or have questions regarding placement testing, contact CTL/Student Testing Services or telephone at 512-232-2662.

What if I need accommodations due to a disability?
If you have a documented disability and require special assistance during Orientation testing, contact Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) at 512-471-6259 and CTL-Student Testing Services at 512-232-2662 at least two weeks before your assigned session to make arrangements.

How do I register, view, or cancel my registration?
Registration is now closed online, but you may still attend. Please contact your college/school to let them know you will be attending.
