Before I came to college, I wish I had known...

- ... how fast money can go.
- ... how different my life would be without parental rules or regulations.
- ... that my student ID picture would be worse than my driver license.
- ... that I shouldn’t be afraid to ask questions in large classes.
- ... that deadlines are no joke.
- ... that people are willing to help.
- ... that I should get involved in a student organization.
- ... that I should locate my classes before the first day of each semester.
- ... that I should take a library tour.
- ... that the most important thing I should try to learn about in college is myself.
- ... that no matter what time I would schedule my first class, I’d sleep right through it.
- ... that I would change so much and barely realize it.
- ... that every clock on campus shows a different time.
- ... that I would go to a party the night before a final.
- ... that you can know everything and fail a test.
- ... that you can know nothing and ace a test.
- ... that I should read the kiosks on campus to learn about upcoming UT Austin events.
- ... that I should form study groups.
- ... that I should utilize all the resources the university has to help me with my studies.
- ... that I should keep an organizer or a calendar.
- ... that I should get to know my neighbors.
- ... that I should telephone home more often.
- ... that my wardrobe would double because of free t-shirts.
- ... that other new students would have the same fears I did.
- ... that I should trade telephone numbers with at least two people in each class.
- ... that I should eat properly and get enough sleep.
- ... that free food served at 10 p.m. is usually gone by 9:50 p.m.
- ... that home is a great place to visit.
- ... that I should keep up with class readings.
- ... that most of my education would be obtained outside of class.
- ... that I should seek out an environment conducive to studying.
- ... that it’s possible to feel alone even when surrounded by friends.
- ... that true friends are what make this place worthwhile.
- ... that "suggested readings" are usually more than "suggested."
- ... that things always pile up right before finals.
- ... that what you get out of college is what you put into it.
- ... that I should sit in the front of the classroom.
- ... that I should bring a good pair of walking shoes.
- ... that the UT Austin shuttle system is very good.
- ... what my strengths and weaknesses were.
- ... how important it is to stay on top of my GPA (especially the first four semesters).
- ... how to manage time and money.
- ... not to procrastinate.
- ... that I should talk with professors during their office hours.
- ... that I should love my major or major in something I love.
- ... the importance of being open-minded.
