Attorney Referral

Dear Attorney:

The University of Texas at Austin Legal Services for Students office has provided legal assistance to currently enrolled students for over 35 years. However, there are some areas in which we cannot offer representation to our clients such as: felonies, family law, immigration law, student vs. student conflicts, university vs. student conflicts, tax law, medical malpractice law, student-owned business matters, or cases that appear to involve a substantial fee-generation. In these instances, we suggest students retain private attorneys who are in good standing with the State Bar of Texas. To help facilitate this process, we offer an attorney referral book that is dissected by area of practice for their perusal. Inclusion in our attorney referral book may provide you an opportunity to expand your client base, obtain additional revenue and help undergraduate and graduate students at the University of Texas at Austin.

In March 1998 and again in December 2001, we mailed surveys to Travis County attorneys in private practice inquiring whether they wished to be included in our attorney referral books. In an effort to streamline this process, we are requesting that attorneys interested in being included on our updated 2004 list submit or, if previously listed, resubmit their information online using our information form. This form will then be printed at our office and placed in our referral books. We do not guarantee any specific number of referrals that may result from your inclusion within a particular time period, but the listed information may provide our students with more data than they might otherwise be able to obtain from the Yellow Pages or other sources. There is no charge for inclusion.

Students who review the books are provided with the following disclaimer:

"The attorneys listed in this book responded to a survey form located on our web site. Inclusion herein does not constitute a recommendation from our office regarding the services these attorneys provide. You must interview each attorney you contact to determine whether such attorney's ability, experience, policies and fees meet your requirements for legal counsel."

Because our office does not accept referral fees, we ask you to consider reducing your fees proportionately for contacts you receive as a result of your inclusion in our referral books. Additionally, we request that you consider reducing or waiving any initial consultation fees.

Please pass this website address and link along to any of your partners, associates, or colleagues who you think may be interested in adding their name to our books. If you need to change your profile, submit the new material online. In this manner, we will be able to keep the information up to date on a daily basis and not have to periodically contact you. If at any time you wish to be dropped from the list, just send us an email and we will be happy to do so. If you have any questions regarding this form or website, please feel free to email us or call our office at (512) 471-7796.

Cordially yours,
