LEAP | Schedule | First-Year Students | Mentors
Thank you for your interest in being a mentor for the Leadership Education And Progress (LEAP) program through the University of Texas Leadership and Ethics Institute (LEI). LEAP is a leadership development program for aspiring student leaders. During an exciting eight-week workshop series, LEAP Mentors have the opportunity to guide first-year students as they meet influential university, business and government leaders; develop personal leadership skills; and create a network of colleagues throughout campus. Along with another experienced student leader, you and your cohort will have the opportunity to get involved in the many facets of LEI.
Mentor responsibilities include:
- Attend LEAP Mentor Retreat: Friday, September 7, 2012, 5–8 p.m.
- Attend the first-ever LEAP Off-Site Retreat (date TBA)
- Attend weekly workshops in the Fall semester: Tuesdays, 3:30–5 p.m., beginning September 18 through November 6, 2012
- Attend LEAP Socials: Fridays, September 14 and October 12, 2012, 5-7 p.m.
- Attend LEAP Graduation: Tuesday, November 13, 2012, 3:30-5 p.m.
- Attend LEAP mentor meetings following the LEAP workshops on Tuesdays, 5–6 p.m.
- Work closely with your co-mentor and cohort to develop and reach goals
- Serve as a role model for new students
- Plan periodic opportunities to gather with your cohort, outside the weekly workshops
- Meet new people, develop relationships and have fun

Note: Please review all of the LEAP Mentor Responsibilities above prior to completing your application. It is important that LEAP Mentors understand all program responsibilities and expectations.
Applicants will participate in a one-hour group interview on Tuesday, May 1, between 2–6 p.m. Please indicate on your application which one-hour timeslot you would prefer in your application materials.
