Committees

LEI is composed of four committees:

  • First-Year Initiatives

    The purpose of the First-Year Initiatives Committee is to develop, coordinate, implement and assess leadership development initiatives that target first-year students (inclusive of transfer students) at The University of Texas at Austin. Projects will include opportunities to:

    • assist in the coordination and implementation of the Leadership Education and Progress (LEAP) program;
    • brainstorm ideas and assist in the planning of the LEAP program;
    • identify and coordinate volunteer opportunities and networking events for first-year students;
    • represent LEI at organization fairs, in the West Mall and at campus events to recruit first-year participants; and
    • attend and contribute to weekly committee meetings.
  • Campus and Community Outreach

    The purpose of the Campus and Community Outreach Committee is to coordinate LEI's outreach efforts in order to inform The University of Texas at Austin community about leadership development opportunities through campus-wide events, service projects, and workshops. The committee will also work to foster collaboration with student organizations and campus departments. Projects will include opportunities to:

    • establish and nurture partnerships with students organizations and campus departments;
    • create and coordinate co-sponsorship initiatives between LEI and student organizations and/or campus departments;
    • identify and coordinate volunteer opportunities for LEI members;
    • facilitate interaction between the student body and LEI through tabling, campus-wide events, conferences, speaker circuiting, etc.;
    • assist in the development of program initiatives to meet the needs of unique student populations including, but not limited to: Transfer, Graduate, Non-traditional, International, Student athletes, and others; and
    • attend and contribute to weekly committee meetings.
  • Leadership Development and Training

    The purpose of the Leadership Development and Training Committee is to coordinate and facilitate ongoing leadership development and training for student leaders and student organizations at The University of Texas at Austin. Projects will include opportunities to:

    • publicize The Leadership Series and other training opportunities by assisting at information sessions, organization fairs and other campus events;
    • brainstorm and select workshop topics, format and activities for The Leadership Series;
    • research, select and contact speakers for The Leadership Series;
    • promote training presentations for student organizations, departments and other groups on campus; and
    • attend and contribute to weekly committee meetings.
  • Recognition and Awards

    The purpose of the Recognition and Awards Committee is to recognize and celebrate the contributions and achievements of student organizations and campus leaders at The University of Texas at Austin. Projects will include opportunities to:

    • create, manage, and facilitate student organization and student leader recognition programs, events and initiatives;
    • assist in the planning and implementation of Evening of the Stars including selecting a theme, decorations, and other giveaway items/awards;
    • coordinate Evening of the Stars Master of Ceremonies auditions;
    • coordinate and promote new recognition efforts to the campus community; and
    • attend and contribute to weekly committee meetings.

Time Commitment: An average of 2-3 hours per week may be required of committee members

Each committee is seeking motivated and excited committee members to join the team for 2011-2012.
