Academic Leadership Classes

EDP369K: Student Organizational Leadership is a three credit academic course, taught by LEI staff, and offered through the Department of Education Psychology. The course carries the Ethics and Leadership flag as part of UT Austin's core curriculum and is designed to develop student leaders by providing both theoretical and practical knowledge and skills necessary to develop greater self-knowledge and leadership competence. Students explore their talents, values and interests; strategies for providing effective leadership; and how to work collaboratively as an ethical change agent within a community.

Through active participation in this class, students will have the opportunity to:

  • develop a personal belief system;
  • consider multiple perspectives to form a decision or opinion;
  • use complex information from a variety of sources to form a decision;
  • develop a leadership philosophy;
  • identify personal strengths and weaknesses;
  • demonstrate ethical decision-making;
  • analyze values through activities and opportunities;
  • comprehend the dynamics of an organization;
  • listen to and consider others' point of view;
  • identify one's own identity;
  • effectively communicate thoughts and opinions; and
  • prepare to serve in a leadership position.
