Alcohol Education Program for Minors Now Offered at UT

During the 2003-2004 academic year, Student Judicial Services (SJS) resolved one hundred and thirty-six alcohol related cases. The vast majority of those cases resulted in a disciplinary penalty with an alcohol education component. In conjunction with University Health Services' Alcohol and Drug Education Program (UHS-ADEP), SJS may now refer students to the Alcohol Education Program for Minors offered at The University.

The Alcohol Education Program for Minors, provided by UHS-ADEP, has been approved by the Texas Commission on Alcohol and Drug Abuse and authorized by the Texas Alcohol Beverage Code Ann. §106.115 (Vernon Supp. 2004).

The program involves a 6-hour course presented in two sessions of three hours each. Sessions must be taken in correct sequence (Session a, and then Session b). A separate exit interview follows completion of the second session and must be attended before a Certificate of Completion is issued.

Registration for the program must take place in person at the UHS Health Promotion Resource Center, SSB 1.106, and requires completion of all paperwork and payment arrangements. The current fee for the program is $40.00 and may be paid up front by check or billed to a student's UT Direct account. The registration process takes about 15-20 minutes and must be completed at least one full day prior to the first class.

Class size is limited to 12 participants, and classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

For additional information, please contact UHS-ADEP at 475-8252.

Student Judicial Services is located in the Student Services Building (SSB), suite 4.104. Contact us via e-mail or call 471-2841 to learn more about our services and programs.
